A comprehensive agriculture-oriented LCI database
Demand for agricultural LCAs is rising: methodologies are reaching maturity, governments and international bodies are regulating sustainable agriculture, and bio-based production of chemicals and energy is growing in popularity. With Agri-footprint 5.0, you will gain access to a wide range of agriculture-specific impact categories such as water and land use, land use change, fertilizers, and soil carbon content.
Agri-footprint was developed by Blonk, a sustainability consulting firm specializing in the complexities of agricultural LCA. Periodic database updates include new products, new methodologies and updated cultivation and processing LCIs.
Working with Agri-footprint
Agri-footprint can be used to do agricultural LCAs and provides valuable information about bio-based production methods for the chemical and energy industry. It allows users to do carbon footprints, hot-spot analysis, EPDs, (comparative) product life cycle assessment (LCAs), etc. With the three predefined allocation options it is especially suited for sensitivity analyses.
- The database is 100% focused on agricultural products.
- Users can choose from three pre-defined allocation options: mass, energy and economic.
- Land use change is fully integrated based on the LUC Impact tool.
- The methodologies and data quality in Agri-footprint 5.0 are compliant with the PEF initiative of the European commission, ILCD and ReCiPe, and have been reviewed by RIVM (Dutch national institute for public health and the environment).
Agri-footprint contains approximately 5,000 products and processes specific to agricultural LCA: crops, products and intermediate products, feed compounds, food products, animal production systems and background processes such as transport, auxiliary inputs for processing, energy, pesticides and fertilizers. Many of these products have three predefined allocation options – mass, energy and economic – and have entries for different locations in the world.
A list of products included in the database can be found on the Agri-footprint website. All SimaPro licenses include all Agri-footprint databases, which consists of economic, gross energy and mass allocation.
Blonk has over two decades of experience in sustainable nutrition and LCA of agri-food products. The firm was established to raise understanding of environmental issues pertaining to agriculture, and to help companies, governments and civil organizations put agricultural sustainability into practice.
